Our Mission

At AEP, our mission is to provide undergraduate students with an unmatched semester abroad in Prague through dedicated instruction, cultural integration, and exceptional support. We believe that studying abroad should be more than just an academic experience—it should be a time of personal growth, cultural discovery, and meaningful connection. At AEP, we are committed to creating an environment where students can learn, explore, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

What we do

Small Community

At AEP, students aren’t just part of a program; they’re part of a community. With our intentionally small program size, we not only get to know all students by name, but also have the possibility to offer personal attention and foster real connections. We work hard to create a welcoming environment where students from all over the U.S. can form lasting friendships and feel a true sense of belonging during their time abroad.

Open Doors

Our office doors are, quite literally, always open. We believe in building trust with our students through a personal, approachable style of support. Whether a student needs help navigating a challenge or simply wants someone to talk to, our team is here to assist, to listen, and to ensure they feel seen and supported. Our office dog Adéla is also always on duty, ready to provide emotional support in the form of cuddles and tail wags.

Safety First

Student safety is our number one priority. From day one, we emphasize personal safety and emergency preparedness as a central part of orientation. We maintain a 24/7 emergency phone line, staffed by a dedicated team of assistants who are ready to respond to any issue, whether health-related, personal, or logistical. We also provide students with a Safey app and mental health. Check our Health and Safety page to learn more about how we support students during their stay.

Understanding Culture Shock

Adjusting to life abroad is a big step, and it’s completely normal for students to feel overwhelmed or homesick at times. For some, this feeling may hit as soon as they land; for others, it might surface after the initial excitement wears off. While it can be tempting to stay in constant communication, it's often helpful to encourage your student to engage with their new surroundings and build local support networks. Rest assured, we are here on the ground to provide them with guidance and care.

“Since the program is smaller than other programs I’ve heard of, the staff is able to really take care of us and help us.

AEP is unique in the way that it offers strong academics, a central location that allows you to travel to nearly anywhere in Europe, and a city that never fails to amaze.

AEP gave us the kindest people in Prague to help guide us through this semester. It was a safe space to connect with not only students, but faculty too.

I am a very shy introverted person, but AEP has helped me get out of my shell.

The AEP staff really cares about you. I am someone who really needs support, sometimes more than other people. The staff is always reachable and willing to help. It’s really like a family here.
Kylie

Studying abroad has been one of the best experiences of my life. You’re challenged, in the best way possible, because you’re in this new place and you’ve been thrown into the deep end of a pool, so to speak. I would recommend AEP because that’s truly is no better program.

Plan for the Semester: A Checklist to Consider

Here are some important things to consider as your student prepares for their time in Prague:
Money Matters: Ensure your student has a Visa or Mastercard debit/credit card for use abroad (American Express is not widely accepted). Discuss budgeting and managing finances.
Important Documents: Make copies/scans of critical documents (passport, ID, insurance cards) in case of loss or theft.
STEP Enrollment: If your student is a U.S. citizen, enroll them in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) through the U.S. State Department.
Medications & Health Needs: If your student requires ongoing medication, plan to bring a full semester’s supply. Contact AEP staff early if there are specific health concerns.
Communication Plan: Set realistic expectations for how and when you'll stay in touch. Consider time zone differences and possibly new communication platforms (like WhatsApp, FaceTime, etc.).

Mail & Packages

All mail should be sent directly to the AEP Office.

Important Shipping Tips:

  • Luggage & Large Parcels:
When shipping larger items like luggage, be careful not to overestimate the declared value. Mark the shipment as a “gift” and declare its value at 150€ or less.
    • If the declared value exceeds 150€, Czech customs will charge Duty + Value Added Tax (VAT) based on that amount.
  • Small Packages & Gifts:
For smaller items and care packages, we recommend declaring a value of no more than 45€. Packages with a declared value under 45€ will be Duty and VAT-free.

Planning a Visit?

We’d love to share recommendations if you're considering a visit to Prague. However, please keep in mind that AEP implements a mandatory attendance policy. Family visits must be planned around your student’s academic schedule, as missing class for family travel will be counted as an unexcused absence.
